geo-Q is committed to Equal Opportunity and we do not reduce it to the usual gender question, but instead understand that it is a much wider and richer subject than is usually appreciated, and in our case in particular it includes questions of equal opportunity in a culturally diverse environment.
We are an international group of researchers ranging from early stage researchers to faculty members. We have several partner institutions and colleagues all over the world, and furthermore, we come from very different scientific disciplines: In geo-Q, physicists work with engineers on the same scientific questions.
In this unique structure, we are facing an interesting challenge to create a unified research team, yet keeping and cultivating a diverse environment with regard to culture, gender and discipline. It is our aim to create a collaborative and friendly research environment in which all members feel they are treated fairly and equally and have equal chances to develop their talents and skills.
Our approach for this challenge is to hold Equal Opportunity training activities with regard to gender equality and cultural sensitivity specially tailored to our geo-Q environment, while also recommending similar opportunities, though with a broader focus, at Leibniz Universität Hannover.
